In his college days, Josh Ritter, the son of two neuroscientists, had plans to follow in his parents' professional footsteps. But after discovering the music of Bob Dylan and Leonard Cohen, Ritter decided to forego the neuroscience route for a career as a folky singer-songwriter. The choice proved to be a wise one: over the past decade, Ritter has come to be known as an admired songwriter and performer here and abroad. On this tune, from his new album So Runs the World Away, Ritter sings a poetic, seafaring melody.
