Judith Berkson
"They Can't Take That Away From Me"
Playing at: Joe's Pub
(425 Lafayette St., East Village)
Get: Tickets | Directions

Pianist, singer and songwriter Judith Berkson is equally comfortable with the Jewish cantorial tradition as she is with experimental music. But on this track, she shows off her distinct approach to the jazz vocal style, approaching this seminal George Gershwin tune with a novel quirkiness. Singing with a cool intimacy and accompanied by nothing but an electric piano, Berkson reworks this classic into a sweet, eccentric cover. Tonight Berkson celebrates the release of her new album Oylam, which hits stores tomorrow.
