Fred Hersch: In Studio

Friday, June 11, 2010

Jazz pianist and composer Fred Hersch has earned three Grammy nominations and has released more than 30 albums, but in a way he feels he is just starting out.

Two years ago, Hersch spent almost three months in coma after suffering an AIDS-related dementia and he was unable to perform for several months after that. He joins us to talk about his new album, Whirl. And, he plays live in our studio.

Thanks for this wonderful show - I cannot believe that I never knew Fred Hersch and his beguiling music. How I love WNYC and all that I am informed of that matters to me.

Not since Bill Evans or Ellis Larkins or Marian McPartland has a pianst excited me so. Wow!
