The five guys in the (mostly) string ensemble Miracles of Modern Science started off playing sea shanties when they were still students at Princeton. Eventually, they found themselves drawn to crafting exuberant chamber pop, but instead of trading in their violin and cello for rhythm guitar and electric bass, the quintet chose to use their classical instruments to create their jaunty sound. On their latest single, the band plays orchestral pop that waxes and wanes with elaborate, rocky energy.
