From humble beginnings as a band of Scottish kids in Edinburgh who played their first gig at their high school's battle of the bands competition (they won), the indie rock quartet We Were Promised Jetpacks have advanced to buzzworthy status in Europe and in the U.S. on the heels of tour dates and their 2009 debut album. In March, the band offered up the five-song EP The Last Place You'll Look, a mini-album which included alternate versions of tracks from their first full-length release along with fresh tunes. "A Far Cry," one of the new cuts, waxes and wanes with moody ardor, as a subdued opening gives way to impassioned screams, crashing guitars and thunderous drums.
