"Despicable Dogs"
Playing at: Mercury Lounge

The songs from Small Black's debut were recorded in the attic of band member Josh Kolenik's uncle's house as his uncle made surfboards beneath them, and appropriately, Small Black have a summer-at-the-shore kind of sound. But like their fellow chillwave compatriots, the electro-pop quartet possess an iciness, thanks to vintage keyboards and samplers. On this track, a reedy drum machine beat gently pounds underneath waves of lo-fi synths and nonchalant vocals.
