Travis Sullivan's Bjorkestra
“Army of Me”
Playing FRIDAY at: Iridium
(1650 Broadway, Midtown West)
Get: Tickets | Directions

Icelandic art-pop singer Bjork has long proved to be an inspirational figure in the art world, but saxophonist Travis Sullivan takes Bjork idolatry to an entirely new level. His Bjorkestra, an 18-piece jazz big-band, uses the singer’s compositions as a launching pad for the big band's sprawling modern jazz explorations. In this recording, Bjork’s synth-driven “Army of Me” gets a classic, brassy treatment, and detours along the way for extended solos on saxophone and guitar.
