The surprise Broadway hit FELA!, based on the life of Nigerian Afrobeat godfather Fela Kuti, has won huge praises from the press. (It even clinched a few Tony awards back in June.) Tonight, St. Anne's Warehouse presents a free concert of music from the show. Expect great FELA! songs played by members of Antibalas, the original Afrobeat revival band. Sahr Ngaujah, who plays the lead in the Broadway show, may not be the real thing, but he does an eerily good impersonation of Kuti. The theatrical version of "Water No Get Enemy," first heard on Fela's 1975 album "Expensive Sh*t," may not be as long as the original 11-minute version, but reamins faithful to Fela's sound and vision.
